About this event

Please join us for a special event on "Reimagining Care for Newcomer Children and Families" co-hosted by The Offord Centre for Child Studies at McMaster University, Early Years Committee Research & Evaluation Network, and Hamilton Immigration & Partnership Council.

The event will feature new research findings on barriers to accessible and effective mental health supports for newcomer children and families in Hamilton, presented by Dr Amanda Sim. We will also hear from Dr Claire Crooks about the STRONG resilience program for newcomer youth, Dr Theresa Betancourt about the Family Strengthening Intervention for Refugees, and Aamna Ashraf about the Immigrant and Refugee Mental Health Project. Finally, we will engage in collaborative breakout sessions to discuss how research findings can be applied to improving mental health supports for newcomer children and families in Hamilton.

Breakfast will be served from 8.30-9.00am and event proceedings will begin at 9.00am. All organizations including service providers and community groups that promote the mental and emotional well-being of newcomer children and families are invited to participate.

Registration for the event ends on April 6, 2023. Please email hammadl@mcmaster.ca or ahmada32@mcmaster.ca with any questions.
